Report from Joan Tyson
January 27, 2010
Dear Friends and Co-Labourers, Greetings from “chilly” Honduras. We have had some strange weather lately, and some of the coldest that I have ever experienced. It warmed up for a few days but now is turning cold again. My heart goes out to the little children and elderly who live in little huts without any kind of heat. I thank the Lord for all the warm clothing that came in the container. I picked out the jackets, childrens clothes for cold weather, blankets, etc., and gave to the elderly and the children back in the mountains. I want to thank every person who has given on the reconstruction of the visitors rooms at the mission center. As they were trying to tear down the old rooms upstairs, one of the adobe walls downstairs fell, and it really looked scary to see that “dirt” was holding up the top floor. Of course, there were pillars but with no steel at all. This has made the budget go up, and we are desperate to finish these rooms before the groups start coming. Our original budget for this project was $42,164.00. TO DATE, WE HAVE RECEIVED A TOTAL OF $31,463.19 – PRAISE THE LORD!!!!! With the added expenses of another wall plus some other expenses that the builder always forgets to put in, we will be able to finish this for $15,000.00 more. I know how hard times are right now but God has always come through for us here. I could look the world over and not find better friends than the ones God has given to me. I love and appreciate every one of you and every day I thank the Lord for your faithfulness and your prayer support without which I could not go on. Yesterday, Pastor Bellarmino Rios from Tapaire came to see me just to tell me how God is blessing in a new area where he is preaching…In these days more than 20 have received the Lord and 15 will be baptized this Sunday. From extra offerings not designated, we were able to buy a large adobe house from new Christians for $1323.00, unbelievable here to even get an adobe house for this price but the Lord made this possible. I want to introduce to you by means of this letter Tony and Edie Middlebrooks who are now representing our mission in the United States. Their love for the work and their sincerity and desire to help the children is so evident. They have a documentary of the work which they made while in Honduras a few months ago. This past Sunday this was shown in the Lupton Drive Baptist Church in Chattanooga and blessed the hearts of everyone present. If you would like to know more about Good Samaritan, we urge you to contact Tony and Edie through our mission office in Villa Rica, Georgia (770-459-4058) and they will be glad to visit your church or Sunday School class. AGAIN, PLEASE, PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL TOUCH HEARTS TO HELP US WITH THE $15,000.00 NEEDED TO FINISH THE CONSTRUCTION AT THE MISSION CENTER IN HONDURAS.
